Join a conversation with award-winning photographer Alex Brandon on Apr. 26

National Press Club's Photography Team is taking part in a lunch-time conversation with Associated Press photographer Alex Brandon, on Wednesday, April 26 at 12 noon in the McLendon Room. For this in-person only event, we're joining the Photography Roundtable, a photojournalism discussion group organized by Marshall Cohen, founder of NPC's Photography Committee, now the Photo Team.

Alex Brandon is a Washington, D.C.-based senior staff photographer for Associated Press, covering domestic and international events. He is one of an AP photo team to win a Pulitzer Prize for their compelling images captured nationwide in the aftermath of the George Floyd shooting in Minneapolis in May and June 2020. AP posted a page with the photographers and winning images, including Brandon's.

The Photographer Roundtable holds periodic conversations with photojournalists, as informal give-and-take over lunch instead of a formal structured program, and NPC's Photo Team is invited to join this conversation with Alex. The session takes place on Wednesday 26 April at 12 noon in the McLendon Room, next to the Reliable Source on the 14th floor. We'll order lunch (self-funded) and begin our conversation at noon.

If you plan to attend, please RSVP by email to Marshall Cohen at bigmarsh@verizon.net or me at alankotok@gmail.com.

NPC Journalism Prize entry deadline is May 15

Speaking of prizes, the deadline for National Press Club's annual journalism awards is less than two months away, May 15. The prizes recognize professional journalists, including photojournalists, who produced outstanding work in 2022.

The news photography award honors excellence in spot news photography, for images taken in 2022. Photos submitted must be published in news publications such as newspapers, magazines, or online media during 2022, with a limit of three photo entries per individual.

More details and link to entry forms are found on the NPC web site. Please note that the entry fee of $135.00 is waived for NPC members.
